“She is wild woman. She breathes fire and has electric hands. She is a powerful vixen not to be crossed. She is a deep transformative process. A swirling ocean. The bitch. She is the unapologetic slut with messy hair.”

After Party Blues

During the last part of the series we were frolicking on top of Mother’s hill in Summer ovulation time. We were at the celebration, we danced naked under the moon, laughed with the community, met the lover, made love. Now is the time we shift into our Wild Witchy phase. We begin to descend back down the mountain, reality hits – it’s time to go back to our Cave. The uterine lining prepares to break down all that which we no longer need; physically and energetically. A wild, primal fierceness encompasses us. We cannot stay here at the top of the mountain forever, fun as it was. There’s a black rain cloud looming overhead and the leaves on the trees begin to turn colour; there’s a cold chill in the air. The crow calls to us, the sound of the Witch, the enchanted one. This week of Autumn is when the emotional layers begin to fall off. We may have had a life changing experience during the Full Moon party that has triggered a memory for healing. This is a time of deep reflection and processing everything that happened whilst at the peak of our cycle. This part of the journey for me is the place we get to tune into our inner shaman. We are on a vision quest journey of descent – to return back to the earth womb.

“The underworld was once understood to be the sacred earth womb, Hel being the Goddess of the underworld. Hel was once Holy, rather than a place of punishment and pain.”

Descend to Ascend

As we are all part of the cycles of nature around us, and everything goes around in the spiral, a part of this cycle is naturally that of the descent, the going down in order to then in turn be reborn again anew and rise like the sun.

Ancient Shamans and Priestesses of the Womb have practiced the descending Womb journey for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis, and Mary Magdalene, were both initiates of this Grail Wisdom. The story of Inanna Queen of Heaven also teaches of the journey down through the Seven holy gates, where she took off all her jewels and meets with the Queen of the Underworld- her sister; her shadow self. These teachings show a deep understanding of the need for descent as a part of the flow of every cycle.

In modern times we have attempted to ignore this important part of our journey, attempting to keep going – stay on top of the mountain forever. Naturally at this time our body is preparing to release the blood, to allow the old patterns and beliefs to shed. If at this time we do not surrender to this natural state of being, if we do not slow down, we can roar like a lion, we get snappy and fed up with our environment around us. This is where the PMS bitch gets her name from. Do we refuse to slow down? It is this very disservice to our body that is causing so many women pain with their menstruation and the week building up to it. Personally I have found during this week I find it difficult to say no to other people’s requests and needs and therefore put my own needs second. Over many years of doing this my inner bitch became fiercer until finally I would break down in tears, releasing all of her pain. The pain of refusing to say “No”,  of not looking after my own needs. We are not meant to be at the top of the mountain constantly- no amount of coffee or whatever else can keep us there! Mumma Womb will find a way of blowing us down off the hill eventually.

Ways to Ignite your Enchantress

  • Most importantly SURRENDER to the process.
  • Embrace your dark side (yes, we all have one).
  • Say No. Honour yourself first.
  • Scream into a pillow or into the hills for release of anger.
  • Go to the ocean, or dance seductively in the rain.
  • Embrace your wildness.
  • Wear sexier clothes.
  • Do magical witchy rituals, burn sage.
  • Drink mugwort tea. (Great for visioning and bringing on bleeding; DO NOT USE WHEN PREGNANT).
  • Be honest with yourself and others.
  • Go on a shamanic journey.
  • Wear black and purple, put on your witchy hat!
  • Dive into a pool of chocolate sauce.

Join me next week as we journey back into the cave of the Crone – Menstruation.
